Our client, a reputable and well-established school in Kwale County, is seeking to hire a qualified and experienced School Bus Driver. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient transportation of students to and from school and related activities. This role requires a technical understanding of vehicle maintenance, strict adherence to road safety standards, and the ability to maintain a respectful and caring environment for all passengers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes and schedules, ensuring punctual pick-up and drop-off of students.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and general bus condition.
  • Identify and report mechanical issues or irregular sounds promptly to the Transport Supervisor or mechanic.
  • Maintain accurate logs for mileage, fuel usage, maintenance, and incident reports.
  • Ensure all passengers are seated and following safety regulations while the bus is in motion.
  • Keep the bus clean, organized, and in good working order.
  • Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and school transport policies.
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Assist learners with special needs during boarding, seating, and disembarking when required.
  • Participate in regular safety drills and basic vehicle maintenance training.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

  • KCSE Certificate or equivalent (minimum).
  • Valid D3 Driver’s License with PSV license.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience driving school buses or institutional vehicles.
  • Proven knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics (e.g., identifying faults, oil checks, coolant levels, tire maintenance).
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance routines and reporting systems.
  • Clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
  • Must pass background checks, drug/alcohol screening, and medical fitness examinations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with patience and professionalism when handling children.
  • Strong understanding of road safety, defensive driving, and emergency procedures.
  • Good vision and hearing (with or without correction).
