About MMS-K:
Make Me Smile Kenya (MMS-K) is a Kenyan non-profit organization established in 2009 with a holistic approach to sustainable development cooperation. The organization focuses on promoting the health and development of adolescents and young people through programming, policy advocacy, and capacity building. Since its inception, MMS-K has collaborated with government structures and relevant stakeholders to significantly improve adolescent reproductive health, establishing itself as a key implementer in adolescent youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH) rights programming and advocacy in Kisumu County.
MMS-K is implementing a 2-year SCALE Project in partnership with Vivamos. The SCALE (Systematic Community-Led Apprenticeship and Livelihood Enterprise) Project is a two-year youth empowerment initiative designed to address unemployment and underemployment among young people aged 18-34 years in Kisumu East, Nyakach, and Muhoroni sub-counties. The project seeks to enhance the socio-economic well-being of youth through skills development, employment linkages, entrepreneurship promotion, and market engagement. The project targets 400 youth, of whom 70% are Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW). Through its three strategic objectives, the project aims to provide market-relevant vocational and entrepreneurship training to the targeted youth, facilitate employment opportunities for at least 320 youth in both formal and informal sectors, and support the establishment of 100 youth-led enterprises. Additionally, the project seeks to stimulate local economic participation by engaging 10,000 community members to patronize and support the youth-owned businesses established under the initiative.
