Background
The Nairobi Waldorf School Trust was founded in 1999. We have more than 400 children on our two Nairobi, Kenya campuses. The Lavington campus consists of toddlers, playgroups, kindergarteners, and primary grades 1 - 5. The Karen campus hosts toddlers, playgroups, kindergarten, primary grades, and High School.
The School has over 90 employees across the two campuses, including academic educators, learning support staff, musicians, games coaches, groundskeepers, full-service kitchen staff, security teams, and administration. Job Summary:
The Games and Swimming Teacher shall be responsible for teaching Games and Swimming to all students at the school, developing their ability to compete in Games and swimming events while evaluating their performance per the objectives and standards of the school Programme.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Responsibility:
a. Plan, Prepare, and deliver lessons to all students.
b. Teach according to individual students’ and groups’ educational needs, abilities, and achievements.
c. Encourage and develop physical fitness and skills to build the learners' self-esteem through sports.
d. Monitor attendance of students in class and ensure high standards of practice and teaching.
e. Advise and collaborate with other teachers and the school community to prepare and develop teaching materials, programs, methods, and assessments.
f. Review and evaluate the teaching and learning strategies, methodologies, and programs aligned with the school and Waldorf curriculum.
Discipline Responsibilities in the Department
a. To inculcate positive thinking among the students.
b. Maintain order and discipline among students and continuously safeguard their health and safety during games and swimming.
Records Management Responsibilities in the Department
a. Contribute to oral and written reports and references relating to students.
b. To ensure complete responsibility and accountability for the school’s learning materials, books, tools, lab equipment, chemicals, etc; by students and teachers.
c. To show evidence of progress in all teaching-learning process aspects.
d. Assessing, recording, and reporting students' development, progress, attainment, and behavior to parents and relevant officials.
Leadership, Administration, and Management of the Department.
a. Adopt work towards the implementation of the school strategic plan.
b. Comply with arrangements within the national framework to appraise student performance.
c. Submitting the yearly budget forecast for the department.
d. Attend parents' sessions and provide them with comprehensive reports on their child's progress.
e. Ensure the safe custody, use, and periodic maintenance of equipment used during lessons.
f. Participate in staff, parent, and student meetings.
Requirements –Education, Skills and Experience:
1. Degree in Education. (Physical Education)
2. Master in Education. (Physical Education and Sports) will be an added advantage.
3. MUST be able to teach mathematics in the primary school.
4. Teachers Service Commission registration is a MUST.
5. 5 years of progressive working experience.
6. Waldorf experience will be an added advantage.
7. A certified lifesaver.
8. Good communication skills.
