Overall Purpose of the Role
The job holder plays a key role in providing quality adapted computer skills, Orientation & mobility (O&M), and Activities of Daily Living to both the newly blind and those who wish to refresh their basic computer soft skills.
- Work with students enrolled in adapted computer training.
- Develop and implement the Individual training plans for training blind, low-vision, and sighted trainees at the Centre for Adaptive Technology (CAT).
- Ensure that the trainees are scheduled in time for their various classes and keep a roster for attendance.
- Provide course outlines to individual trainees and ensure learners are informed of their daily schedules from the beginning to the end of the course.
- Conduct psychosocial talks in preparation for rehabilitation training among the newly blinded.
- Train students in Braille skills.
- Train the student in Orientation & Mobility and Activities of Daily Living.
- Prepare Braille reading cards of words, sentences, and short stories guided by the Braille Primer (Manual).
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in education/ social sciences or its equivalent.
- At least 3 years’ work experience in the education sector, especially in inclusive education or with learners with visual impairment/ disability, will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of education sector policy, child rights, and protection issues
- Experience in facilitating community-based training, capacity building for school management, and awareness campaigns.
