Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) is a Christian not-for-profit organization registered as a Trust of the ecumenical partnership of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK). Currently, the organization serves more than 2,200 organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa. MEDS was officially founded in 1968 to provide reliable, quality, affordable essential drugs and medical supplies to church health units and to train health workers on the rational use of drugs. The organization has since grown to shape the medical supply chain in Kenya and the wider sub-Saharan region by not only providing reliable, quality, affordable essential drugs and medical supplies to more than 2,000 health facilities but also to offer capacity building programmes for health workers, quality control and other pharmaceutical services.
Our Impact and Growth
From its humble beginnings, MEDS has steadily grown into a key player in shaping the medical supply chain, not just within Kenya, but throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. With a network of over 2,000 healthcare facilities, we support both rural and urban health units with essential medicines, medical supplies, and equipment, ensuring that healthcare providers can deliver high-quality services to their communities.
Our services go beyond just the provision of medical supplies. We have committed ourselves to the development of the entire healthcare ecosystem through:
Training & Capacity Building: MEDS offers continuous education programs for healthcare workers, enhancing their skills in the rational use of drugs, disease prevention, and patient care.
Quality Assurance: With our rigorous quality control systems, we ensure that the medical supplies we deliver meet global standards, safeguarding the health of millions of people in Africa.
Pharmaceutical Support & Distribution: MEDS plays a central role in managing and distributing essential medicines, ensuring that critical drugs are available where and when they are needed most.
Our Vision for a Healthier Future
Driven by faith and a deep commitment to improving healthcare, MEDS is dedicated to transforming the landscape of healthcare delivery in Sub-Saharan Africa. Through strategic partnerships, innovative solutions, and an unwavering focus on quality, we are not only addressing immediate healthcare needs but also building sustainable health systems that will benefit future generations.
By empowering healthcare providers with the right tools, training, and support, MEDS continues to play an instrumental role in improving healthcare outcomes across the region. We are proud of our legacy and remain steadfast in our mission to serve the health needs of communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
