About Amani Africa
Amani Africa is an independent pan-African policy research, training, consulting think dedicated to analyzing and reporting on the work, products, and working dynamics of multilateral policy platforms relating to Africa with a focus on the African Union (AU) and its Peace and Security Council (PSC). As a think with a specialization on the AU, Amani Africa is the leading source of information and analysis on AU’s peace and security work.
Amani Africa supports the pan-African vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated Africa through evidence-based research, training, strategic communications, technical support, convening, and facilitation. As part of the consolidation and enhancement of its work, Amani Africa is pleased to invite applicants with relevant expertise and experience to apply for the position of Senior Researcher.
Requirements
- At least a Master’s degree in peace and security studies, political science, international relations, law, and related social science fields.
- Five years of experience (working in International Organizations (IOS) operating in Africa particularly the AU, the UN, RECs, policy research organizations, civil society organizations, or academic or media institutions),
- Knowledge and experience of working with the African Union and other IOs operating in Africa, proven record of research and writing skills on African issues,
- Able to work independently and in diverse settings and eager to develop impactful expertise on African IOs and multilateral policy processes
- Knowledge of more than one AU working language is desirable
- Knowledge and experience of working on/with the AU Peace and Security Council are highly valuable
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities
- Undertake relevant research and produce regular analysis for Amani Africa’s policy research publications including its flagship publication ‘Insights on the PSC’ and various other knowledge and media products
- Conceptualize, design, implement, and/or oversee together with relevant Amani Africa team the implementation of the research, technical support, strategic communication, and training projects of Amani Africa
- Plan and implement the dissemination of the research work of Amani Africa through direct communication with stakeholders, briefings, presentations, social media profiling, and media engagements
- In coordination with the management team establish and maintain close working relationships with all stakeholders engaged in African multilateral processes particularly those in relation to the AU;
- Under the guidance of the management team initiate and establish collaborative working relationships with various relevant partner entities including peer organizations for developing and implementing joint activities;
- Initiate, plan, and implement high-level policy convening on current issues of importance relating to Africa’s multilateral policy processes
- Conduct research on the role of RECs, AU, and partnering international IOs most notably the UN, the EU, and major powers.
- Oversee and lead the tracking, documenting, and regular analysis of both the work and activities of Africa’s Ios including most notably the AU and RECs/RMs and the political peace and security developments on the continent
- Produce regular analysis on decision outcomes including but not limited to PSC sessions and AU Summit
- Together with the management team, develop, maintain, and regularly update stakeholders' databases and arrangements for collaborative work with partner organizations
Contract Period
The total contract period will be one year with the possibility of an extension.
