THE OPPORTUNITY 
In this role, you will take execution in implementing health, safety, and environment procedures in the quarries and ensuring raw material extraction, including processing, is within the required quality and quantity at optimized cost.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) 
  • Ensure that all work undertaken in the area of operation is compliant with the Company’s HSE Policy, HSE Rules, and HSE Standards. 
  • Perform regular site inspections and audits of work areas, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards and put in place control measures to mitigate the hazards. 
  • Develop Risk assessments, safe work instructions, and procedures, and perform regular reviews to ensure relevance to operations. 
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks, serious incident reviews, and awareness training sessions for all workers under their supervision to reinforce understanding of control measures, promoting a robust safety culture. 
  • Ensure that risk assessments are carried out, documented, and well understood before undertaking any jobs. Responsible for ensuring that necessary work permits are properly issued and understood by workers and contractors. 
  • Responsible for undertaking effective supervision to ensure that all control measures specified in SOPs, Safe Work Instructions, and Permits are continuously adhered to. 
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating the critical controls in their areas of operations to ensure that they are effective and in place, and that any gaps are reported and immediate and sustainable corrective actions are put in place. 
  • Responsible for stopping unsafe work and taking timely corrective action where there are deviations from the established procedures, with a focus on ensuring a safe working environment. 
  • Proactively engage in consequence management procedures to address non-compliance and reinforce adherence to safety standards. 
  • Responsible for putting systems in place to ensure high standards of housekeeping are maintained in their work areas. 
  • Promptly report and investigate any HSE incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and or conditions arising in your area of operation.
MAIN ACTIVITIES 
Quality: 
  • Define a short-term mining plan to meet material uniformity and pile targets 
  • Put in place control mechanisms to achieve material quality targets in collaboration with process and quality teams 
  • Optimise raw mix logic in collaboration with quality and process 
Operations: 
  • Implement a short-term mining plan 
  • Coordinated daily quarry, stockpiles, and crusher operations 
  • Defines mid-term mining plan in collaboration with the mining excellence team and uses it to optimally mine the reserves 
  • Implement long-term mining plan 
  • Produce at optimal cost whilst maintaining material availability for the production process. 
  • Optimize reserves as defined in the mining plan, and implement land rehabilitation where applicable 
  • Optimize the efficiency of equipment and other resources in the mining processes 
  • Work with procurement on short-term contract awarding 
  • Ensure crusher operations are at an optimized level to achieve target quantities and quality parameters 
  • Participate in monthly closing (good/service receiving and material stock taking/verification) 
Land Control:
  • Patrolling closed and active quarry 
  • Report encroachment of company property in all active quarries 
  • Yearly calculation of exploited land for rehabilitation 
Environment 
  • Implement and improve mining methods to comply with local laws and environmental standards (Air quality, noise, vibration, and water). 
  • Quarterly/daily measure compliance and have a mitigation plan.
Logistics 
  • Ensure material dispatch and loading are according to the required transport standards from the quarries to the plant 
  • Liaise with Logistics, quality, and production departments on the handling of additives received from suppliers and shipments. 
  • Support external suppliers of additives by providing them with technical support so as to optimize their operations, improve quality, and consistency. 
Qualification & Experience 
  • Bachelor's in Geology/Engineering in Mining 
  • 5 to 6 years of professional experience in mining operations
