About ChildFund
ChildFund is a child-focused international development organization that connects children with the people, resources, and institutions they need to grow up healthy, educated, skilled, and safe, no matter where they are. We work directly in 23 countries, with extended reach to more than 60 countries through our global partnership network.
ChildFund’s Values
We aspire for every person in our organization—program participants, supporters, staff, and volunteers alike—to feel free, safe, and confident to be themselves. In our culture of connection, you will have ample opportunity to grow, learn, and lead while contributing your talents and innovations to our inspiring mission.
ChildFund International has a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH) and all other forms of harm by its staff, partners, and other representatives in the delivery of its mission and services for children. ChildFund is committed to creating a safe environment in the workplace as well as in the communities where it delivers programs and services. ChildFund expects every staff member, partner, and representative to adhere to this commitment and to ensure all organizational policies and standards are followed. This position is subject to a range of vetting checks, including a criminal records check and/or disclosure, to ensure program participants are safeguarded.
Background Information
ChildFund protects children’s well-being by strengthening relationships among children, parents, community members, local organizations, teachers and schools, governments, and others. Together, we improve children’s lives - at every age, from infancy to young adulthood - with better nutrition, health, safety, education, and skills. Our three-fold mission is to help children and families experiencing various forms of deprivation, exclusion, and vulnerabilities improve their lives and become adults who bring positive changes to their communities: to promote societies that value, protect, and advance the worth and rights of children: and to enrich supporters’ lives through their support of our cause.
The Program, Sponsor Relations & Communications Intern plays an important role in supporting ChildFund’s sponsorship-related activities, such as correspondence and communications that strengthen relationships between enrolled/sponsored children, their families, and communities with their sponsors, thereby contributing to transformative development outcomes in the Nairobi Metropolitan Program (NMP) operational areas. In addition, the intern will support NMP in documenting and showcasing program activities across the four project sites through photography, videography, storytelling, and community communications. This role will contribute to enhancing the visibility of program achievements and impact within the ChildFund Kenya ecosystem and among other key stakeholders.
- Support Sponsor Relations and Program Activities: The intern will assist in sponsorship correspondence, child updates, record management, and the implementation of program activities.
- Enhance Documentation and Communication: The intern will support documenting program activities through photography, videography, storytelling, and reports to showcase impact and support learning, while increasing Program Visibility and engagement with sponsors and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with the Program and Sponsorship Officer/Assistants to ensure children and families are enrolled in the program using established eligibility criteria, and that household registration is completed and maintained in the CAMEL system.
- Support the maintenance of accurate sponsorship records in compliance with ChildFund sponsorship standards.
- Support coordination of sponsor-related activities and follow up on sponsorship deliverables, including tracking and reviewing the quality of sponsorship correspondence and communication materials (child letters, child updates, and special communications) prior to submission, to ensure compliance with ChildFund sponsorship procedures, guidelines, and quality standards in terms of timeliness and content.
Program Implementation Support
- Support in planning, coordinating, and implementing program activities across project sites.
- Participate in field visits and support beneficiary registration, activity monitoring, and documentation.
- Support the preparation of activity reports, meeting minutes, and presentations.
Communications and Documentation
- Document program activities through photography, videography, interviews, and the development of success stories.
- Develop content for reports, social media, and other communication materials.
- Support collection, organization, and archiving of program data, photos, videos, and other communication assets.
- Conduct regular field visits to all four NMP project sites (Nairobi, Kiambu, and Murang’a) to capture high-quality photographs and video footage across thematic areas, including Health & Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, and Livelihoods.
- Maintain an organized and well-captioned digital media library of NMP activities, ensuring all content is properly labelled by site, thematic area, date, and activity type for ease of retrieval and submission to the ChildFund Kenya Country Office communications team.
- Coordinate with the Country Office communications team to ensure timely submission and appropriate representation of NMP content on ChildFund Kenya’s official social media platforms, without creating or managing separate NMP social media accounts.
- Support setup and day-to-day management of the NMP WhatsApp Channel, including publishing updates, uploading photos and short videos, and growing channel membership among enrolled families, community members, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Draft short human-interest stories, activity write-ups, and photo narratives for the WhatsApp Channel and submission to the Country Office communications team, ensuring alignment with ChildFund Kenya branding guidelines and child safeguarding standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to Child Safeguarding Policy and procedures in all programs, sponsorship, and communication activities, including obtaining and documenting informed consent prior to capturing or publishing any images or information involving program participants, and ensuring safeguarding risks are identified and mitigated in all interventions.
Other Duties
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in support of program, sponsor relations, and communication objectives.
- Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree (completed or ongoing) in Social Sciences, Community Development, Development Studies, Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, or a related field. - Familiarity with basic photo and video editing tools (e.g., CapCut, Canva, or similar), with the ability to produce simple, clean, and engaging content for WhatsApp and social media platforms.
