DEPUTY CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) is an Indigenous non-profit community conservancy membership organization. Its mission is to develop resilient community conservancies that transform lives, secure peace, and conserve natural resources. NRT currently supports 45 community conservancies across Kenya in 10 counties (Marsabit, Laikipia, Isiolo, Meru, Baringo, Samburu, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu and West Pokot counties) and Uganda.

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Deputy Chief Executive Officer to provide strategic leadership and oversight to all internal functions within our organization to enable us to serve our growing community conservancy membership effectively. The Deputy CEO will be responsible for overseeing finance, programs, operations, people, and internal audit functions. The individual will play a critical role in operational planning, execution, process streamlining, and resource management, while also focusing on organizational change management and transformation to enhance professionalization within the organization which is in the growth trajectory. 

Key roles/responsibilities:

  • Supervise all internal functions, including finance, programs, operations, people, science, and conservation. 
  • Support the CEO as and when required. 
  • Provide oversight and coordination to the diverse technical teams and matrix (regions, conservancies, programs) to ensure seamless execution. 
  • Lead annual planning, budgeting, execution, process streamlining, and resource management to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. 
  • Oversee organizational change management and transformation, developing strategies to enhance the professionalization of the organization. 
  • Oversee NRT’s support to improving conservancy field operations, staff and conservancy board capacity, governance, and technical programs. 
  • Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all departments to streamline processes and ensure compliance with organizational standards. 
  • Ensure organizational systems enable efficient and effective execution of the strategic plan; evaluate options for digitization of organization, need for an organization-wide ERP system. 
  • Provide daily management, coaching and mentorship, and career development and training opportunities to all direct reporting staff.
