Job Summary
The Financial Reporting Accountant is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accounting records and reports to ensure the provision of timely and accurate financial information in accordance with prescribed financial policies, standards, and accounting requirements. The Financial Reporting Accountant will also be responsible for managing the company's operating expenses to ensure that they are within set budgets, and also maintain the fixed assets register.
- Prepare and deliver accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including analysis of business performance against budgets.
- Maintain and manage the company’s asset register, ensuring all assets are properly recorded, tracked, and accounted for in line with company policies.
- Monitor expenses and produce variance analysis reports, highlighting key issues and recommending corrective actions to management.
- Support the optimization and integration of core business systems with financial systems to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of financial processes, systems, and reconciliation procedures.
- Manage reconciliation processes by coordinating information flows across finance and other departments to resolve discrepancies.
- Support and coordinate internal and external audit processes, ensuring compliance with statutory and organizational requirements.
- Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records.
- Implement and monitor financial controls, identifying risks and ensuring compliance with established control frameworks.
- Prepare and review trial balances to ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions.
- Support month-end closing processes, including cut-off procedures and reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management and group financial reports.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of all statutory and regulatory reports.
- Perform any other finance-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field
- Professional accounting qualification, such as CPA K or ACCA
Experience
- At least 2 years’ experience in finance, preferably within the financial service industry
Competencies
- Working knowledge of Insurance regulatory and legal frameworks governing financial operations.
- Strong risk awareness with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Strong knowledge of finance principles, accounting practices, and applicable tax legislation.
- In-depth understanding of insurance operations, products, and industry concepts. Good understanding of general ledger management and core accounting processes.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and International Financial Reporting Standards.
- Proficiency in financial systems and Excel.
