Our client operates in the telecommunications sector, providing key support to mobile telecommunications players on various aspects of infrastructure development.
They offer comprehensive telecom infrastructure services, including the design, construction, and maintenance of telecom towers, fiber optic networks, and equipment.
Their solutions are tailored to optimize network performance and productivity. They have retained our services to support the hiring process for the position of Energy Design Engineer to be based at their HQ in Nairobi.
Reporting to the Director, the Energy Design Engineer will offer/propose the best technical solution to implement on a new site or on an existing site, and ensure the chosen technical solution is the most cost-effective in terms of fuel/grid consumption, the most cost-effective in terms of O&M, and that the chosen solution presents the best TCO.
Key considerations in the choice of solution will include Cost and Delivery time, Fuel/Grid consumption, and frequency of equipment replacement.
Key Responsibilities
Design of a hybrid energy solution for a Telecom site:
- PV power, Battery capacity, Power rectifier, Power generator.
- Establish the Technical BOQ for the project, including transportation, O&M, and installation, in relation to the department concerned.
- Establish the Business Plan of the project, including Replacement equipment along with the project.
- Calculate the fuel/grid consumption of the project.
- Calculate the expected savings in % of the proposed solution.
Required Key Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Renewable energy, telecom infrastructure development, or related field.
- At least 5 years in a Telecom environment, preferably in Renewable Energy designing solutions
- Advanced knowledge in Electricity and Solar Energy.
- Advanced knowledge in Simulation Software such as: PVSYST, HOMER Pro, Helioscope
- Advanced level in Microsoft Suite: Excel
- Solid understanding of project management fundamentals
- Good understanding of project budgeting and financial management
- Solid understanding of infrastructure solutions fundaments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
