EQC & Operations Executive

Location: Mombasa

Our client is a leading logistics company with a presence across the Eastern Africa region. They specialise in cross-border logistics, cross-border cargo, sea & air freight services, and warehousing. They have retained our services to support the hiring process for the EQC and Operations Executive to be based in Mombasa.

Job Purpose/Your Role

Reporting to the shipping Manager, you will have direct control over equipment, vessel operations, and general port operations, including end-to-end documentation, logistics, and liaison with various players at the port.

Key Responsibilities

Vessel Operations

  1. Receive vessel/voyage details from principals.
  2. Prepare and submit pre-arrival notifications to KPA.
  3. Arrange berthing prospects with the port and secure Immigration and Port Health Clearance.
  4. Coordinate pilotage, tug services, and berth allocation.
  5. Ensure all documentation, like the crew list and cargo manifest, is submitted to customs authorities.
  6. Coordination of Vessel Operation.
  7. Principal Reporting.

Equipment Control

  1. Planning for an evacuation on the Principal's request
  2. Preparing pre-advice and follow-up of payment for KPA
  3. Arrange for a joint survey of damaged empty containers delivered at our empty nominated depots and report to Principals.
  4. Preparing repair and demurrage charges to the responsible parties.
  5. Arranging for physical check of our containers in all areas port/cfs and depots.
  6. Following up on long-stay containers with the consignee
  7. Sending of long-stay containers report to the principal, indicating the reason for not being returned to stock.

Required Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in supply chain, Logistics, or a related field. Those who have relevant experience totalling 5+ years will also be considered
  • Proven experience in port/vessel operations, equipment control, and a strong understanding of port shipping procedures
  • Strong understanding of shipping operations, freight forwarding, and supply chain management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet sales targets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Results-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with clients.
