Role Profile
Reporting to the Head of DIAU, the Inclusive Employment Advisor develops and manages partnerships that promote Inclusive Employment. The advisor fosters partnerships with Employer Organizations, Human Resource Management Associations and Universities. TVETs, private sector, public and government actors in the field of inclusive employment. He/she leads Employability Training for job seekers with disabilities, and promotes inclusive hiring practices, work experience placements, and successful job placements. The role holder will build a data base of prepared job seekers with disabilities and the potential employers.
Technical Advice on Disability Inclusive Employment
- Conduct training and oversee the implementation of Employability Training for job seekers with disabilities with an initial focus on participants of the We Can Work Academy, in close collaboration with the We Can Work Program Manager and Coordinator.
- Plan for and coordinate the implementation of work experience placements while ensuring that interns as well as their line managers receive adequate support and coaching or mentoring through Disability Inclusion Facilitators.
People Management
- Support the training and mentoring of Inclusive Employment Disability Inclusion Facilitators working closely together with the Head of the Disability Inclusion Advisory Unit and other Advisors.
Partnership Management
- Develop and maintain partnerships with strategic actors around Inclusive Employment in Kenya.
- Devise and implement strategies that further the growth of the Kenya Business and Disability Network and its membership to ensure technical and programmatic support that leads to a sustainable, employer led network of employers that are committed to become more disability inclusive in their workplaces.
- Participate in network events with Human Resource Managers.
- Foster relationships with Federation of Kenya Employers and their members.
Networking and representation
- Organize career fairs to match job seekers with employers that are committed to disability inclusion in close collaboration with the Business and Disability networks, Federation of Kenya Employers among others.
- Identify opportunities and partnerships that may be relevant for Light for the World beyond thematic and programmatic responsibility and refer them for appropriate action.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Writing activity reports and contributing to quarterly data collection and reporting of the DIAU.
- Identify best practices around Inclusive Employment in Kenya and support documentation and communication on these in close collaboration with Learning & Documentation and Communication colleagues.
- Manage a growing database of well-prepared job seekers with clear documentation of their educational background and career perspectives and engage them in job readiness training and job fairs in close collaboration with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and learning institutions.
- University Degree or Higher in field relating to development work, Human Resource, or program management, Business Administration. Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 8 years of experience working in Non-Governmental Organizations or Organizations of Persons with Disabilities or foundations that focus on inclusion.
- Demonstrated experience in private sector engagement, and understanding of the labour laws in Kenya, employer and employee rights and the trends within the space.
- Demonstrated experience with persons with disability and relating skills for work with employers in a match making process.
- Experienced trainer and facilitator with experience in designing and conducting skills building workshops and other capacity development approaches to employers in public and private sector.
- Excellent networking skills with an ability to connect, build relationships with stakeholders that translate into results without losing touch even with the slow relations.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to express a point in the shortest words possible and exercise emotional intelligence in communicating to partner and colleagues.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementation of Livelihood programs and Disability inclusion is desired.
- Show great initiative and be able to work well in a team and independently.
- Ability to produce timely and deliver high-quality results.
- High level of exposure to barriers that persons with disabilities face and practical solutions to overcome those barriers, either through Lived experiences or through previous work experience.

Role Profile
Reporting to the Head of DIAU, the Disability Inclusion Officer (DIO) manages the logistics of events, trainings and Disability Inclusion Academies. He/she will further manage the planning of the Disability Inclusion Facilitators (DIFs) and trainees across the different programmes in close communication with the DI Advisors and the Head of DIAU. The DIO is an important liaison between the DI Advisory Unit and the other departments supporting the DIFs with their work planning and accountabilities.
Manage logistics for DI Advisory Unit activities:
- Arrange all logistics for the Disability Inclusion Academies, as well as learning events, exposure visits, job fairs and other meetings
- Facilitate field missions (air, vehicle, hotel booking, accommodation etc) manage visa request and follow-up in consultation with finance and administration Officer
- Coordinate the preparation and issuance of invitation letters to event participants and partners, including hotel guarantee letters, as required by the DIAU team, in collaboration with the Finance & Administration officer.
Administrative support for Advisors and mentors
- Planning and supporting arrangement that relate to mentorship activities.
- Support Advisors when planning for travel.
Administrative and logistical support for DIFs
- Follow up and support DIFs and trainee DIFs with planning and preparing for their activities.
- Serve as a Focal Person in liaising between DIFs and the DIAU team for administrative aspects of their work.
- Be a first point of contact for DIFs in case they face work related challenges that affect their professional wellbeing.
- Assist the DIAU team in effectively managing administrative aspects of the Disability Inclusion Facilitators.
- Maintain a detailed record of equipment types received by each DIF in accordance with the terms of their respective contracts.
Streamlining the assessment and certification process of DIFs
- Ensure that the assessment rubrics for DIF trainees are completed and filed.
- Together with the DIAs plan for the certification event and make sure that all relevant stakeholders are on board.
Provide administrative support to the Head of DIAU
- Preparation of minutes.
- Planning for performance talks with the Advisors.
- Filing of workplans and reports and present them for approval and review.
- Support the planning and implementation of mentoring and monitoring activities by the head of the unit, Advisors and senior DIFs.
- Timesheets, workplan and Calendar support for the Unit.
Knowledge management
- Conduct needs assessments and develops knowledge management strategies.
- Identify and select resource materials and tools to be uploaded on one drive.
- Identify tools and methods for effective capturing, recording, storing, and sharing of knowledge within the unit.
- Integrate knowledge management innovations in all activities as relevant.
- Customize, implement, and integrate innovative Knowledge Management tools and techniques, into existing platforms.
- Archiving and documentation.
Process flow management
- Accountability: ensuring that the DIAU process meets the needs of projects and achieves the desired objectives.
- Continuous improvement: constantly seek opportunities to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and agility of the processes.
- Standardization: responsible for establishing and enforcing consistent procedures, guidelines, and best practices across the organization. While ensuring that the process is executed uniformly, regardless of the individuals involved, leading to predictable and reliable outcomes.
Database management, Documentation & learning
- Maintaining documents and records, ensuring confidentiality, and creating and updating electronic and physical filing systems.
- Organizing and categorizing documents in a logical and easily accessible manner.
- Maintaining the log of DIFs, assignments and requests.
Skills and Qualifications
- University Degree or Higher in field relating to development work, business management, BIT or computer science
- At least 5 years of experience working in Non-Governmental Organizations or Organizations of Persons with Disabilities or foundations that focus on inclusion.
- High level of exposure to barriers that persons with disabilities face and practical solutions to overcome those barriers either through Lived experience or through previous work experience
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, Sign language will be an added advantage.
- Show great initiative and be able to work well in a team and independently.

- Help draft and organize invitation letters for events.
