Our client is a fast-growing African fintech enabling cross-border payments, FX, stablecoin trading, Wallet-as-a-Service (WaaS), virtual IBANs, and payout solutions across Africa and global corridors. They have retained our services to support hiring for the position of Trader, Global Markets.
Reporting to the Head of Treasury, the position sits at the intersection of institutional-grade trading discipline and fintech agility. The successful candidate will own day-to-day FX and stablecoin trading across assigned corridors, contribute to liquidity management and prefunding accuracy, and operate within a governance framework that is audit-ready and controls-first. You will drive corridor-level execution at the highest standards of volume, margin discipline, and settlement reliability.
1. FX & Stablecoin Trading Execution
- Execute FX trades across assigned corridors (East Africa, West Africa, LATAM, and GCC/Asia once live) in line with
- approved pricing bands and volume targets
- Trade USDT/stablecoin flows for WaaS, OTC, On/Off-ramp, and Payout products
- Achieve ≥99.9% trade execution success rate with zero repeat settlement errors
- Maintain ≥85% same-day (T+0) settlement across all corridors
2. Margin Discipline & Pricing Integrity
- Maintain net FX margin within ±5% of approved corridor pricing bands at all times
- Reduce FX slippage by ≥20% year-on-year through smart execution and counterparty selection
- Ensure ≥95% of trades are priced within approved limits; escalate any off-band pricing with full documentation
- Flag and escalate pricing anomalies or structural margin compression to the Head of Treasury
3. Liquidity Management & Prefunding
- Contribute to daily liquidity forecasting and ensure prefunding accuracy ≥95%
- Manage assigned float efficiently — idle liquidity must remain ≤10% of float
- Support the Treasury’s Liquidity Coverage Ratio target of ≥120% at all times
- Identify and escalate liquidity stress signals early; participate in contingency planning
4. Settlement & Reconciliation
- Ensure all trades are settled accurately and on time, contributing to ≥90% STP processing
- Support daily bank and ledger reconciliations, completed by T+1
- Investigate and resolve settlement exceptions promptly; document root causes and preventive actions
5. Risk, Controls & Governance
- Operate with zero unauthorized trades and zero limit breaches — hard gates for variable pay
- Complete all trade documentation within SLA; maintain clean audit trails
- Actively support treasury risk dashboard reporting covering liquidity, exposures, and counterparties
- Comply with all AML, compliance, and regulatory requirements applicable to treasury operations
6. Product & Corridor Readiness
- Support LATAM corridor treasury go-live (Q1 target) and GCC/Asia readiness (Q3 target)
- Collaborate with Product & Engineering teams on new corridor rails and settlement workflows
- Provide market-making and pricing inputs to Business Development and Sales for deal structuring
Essential
- Minimum of 5 years of FX trading, treasury operations, or global markets experience — ideally within a fintech, bank, or regulated payments institution
- Hands-on experience executing FX trades across Sub-Saharan Africa corridors (East Africa and/or West Africa)
- Demonstrable track record of margin discipline and trade execution in volatile or illiquid markets
- Strong understanding of settlement mechanics, STP processing, and reconciliation workflows
- Experience working within institutional risk and controls frameworks (exposure limits, counterparty limits, trade documentation)
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Desirable
- Experience trading stablecoin/USDT or digital assets in a regulated or quasi-regulated context
- Familiarity with LATAM, GCC, or Asia FX corridors
- Working knowledge of Zoho Finance, treasury management systems, or similar platforms
- CFA, ACI Dealing Certificate, or other relevant professional qualification
- Experience contributing to treasury readiness for new corridor launches
