Job Description:

The Centre for Domestic and Development (CDTD) is a national non-governmental, women's rights organization in Kenya that has spearheaded the economic empowerment of women through professional training of women domestic workers since 2001. CDTD also has interventions to respond to trafficking, refugees, and internal displacement affecting marginalised girls and women, as well as survivors of gender-based violence (SGBV), including a shelter/ safe house.

TAGS is the Center for Domestic Training’s (CDTD) protection program that is dedicated to providing abused girls and young women with services necessary for their recovery and social reintegration using a 4R approach of: Reach, Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Reintegrate.

Role Purpose

TAGS seeks to recruit a Social worker who will assist in the provision of social interventions and assistance to the most at-risk and vulnerable women, girls, and refugee clients. The social worker will be required to conduct a thorough assessment, case management, including follow-up, to ensure that our clients receive appropriate services. The social worker will be needed to track the impact of the assistance provided to the clients.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify the most at-risk vulnerable girls, women, and refugees at risk of neglect, abuse, and exploitation through best interest assessment and review of referral notes.
  • Conduct home visits/follow up on social factors to establish facts and allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation to make concrete case plans.
  • Conduct assessments to determine whether a parent/caregiver is fit to provide care and prepare reports for legal action.
  • Conduct referrals for the vulnerable girls, women, and refugees to partner agencies and follow up to facilitate access to external services not offered at the Shelter.
  • Support in providing basic counselling and psycho-education to the vulnerable girls, women, and refugees, and refer complex cases to the counsellor for continued counselling.
  • Maintain case files and complete extensive documentation, and perform other administrative tasks related to case management.
  • Organize and manage education activities and supervise learning at the shelter.
  • Monitor the school's progress, write school reports for the children, and manage sponsor relations.
  • Ensure residents' adherence to safety and security standard operating procedures and report incidents in accordance with CDTD’s policies and procedures.
  • Manage the donations inventory and ensure the inventory system is up-to-date by monitoring the receipt, issue, and recording of all food/non-food items.
  • Continuously review food preparation and storage systems to ensure hygiene.
  • Supervise and maintain logs of all facilities and equipment maintenance for work done on the property.
  • Attend internal staff meetings on request and represent CDTD in various networking forums or events.
  • Prepare and provide high-quality weekly, monthly, and annual reports and other data highlighting progress and client needs.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required from time to time.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCE

i. A university degree in social work, community development, gender and developmental studies, or a diploma in social work with over five (5 ) years’ experience.

ii. At least 3 years working with girls and young women in protection and advocacy.

iii. Knowledge of international and national child protection, women's, and refugee rights.

iv. Possess technical expertise in case management and psycho-social support for the vulnerable girls, women, and migrants.

v. Highly experienced in conducting best interest assessments and best interest determination.

vi. The person must maintain strict confidentiality, honesty, and integrity, and can work under minimum supervision.

3. Adherence to work plans, timelines, and deadlines.

4. Cost-effective use of and accountability for project funds in line with donor rules and organizational policies.

6. Adherence to project rules, guidelines, and polices on safeguarding and child protection
